Marcel Lapierre Morgon – Morgon – Red – 2024:
The Benchmark of Natural Cru Beaujolais
The Morgon from Domaine Marcel Lapierre is an icon that helped launch the modern natural wine movement. Led today by Mathieu and Camille Lapierre, the estate continues its uncompromising commitment to organic farming and minimal intervention, producing wines of exceptional purity and structure from old-vine Gamay on granite soils.
This wine is the quintessential expression of Morgon-the Beaujolais Cru famous for its ‘morgonnant’ character, meaning it develops the complexity and depth often associated with a fine Burgundy Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes
- Color: Bright, translucent ruby.
- Nose: Vibrant and pure, featuring primary aromas of fresh cherry, wild raspberry, and characteristic floral notes of violet. Hints of licorice and subtle granite minerality emerge with air.
- Palate: Fresh and silky upon entry. The mid-palate is juicy and structured, driven by crunchy fruit and fine, elegant tannins. The finish is long, pure, and gracefully persistent.
Pairing & Serving
This is a serious food wine. Decant for one hour and serve slightly chilled (59-61°F / 15-16°C) to maximize the fruit purity and structure. It pairs perfectly with rich, savory dishes.
- Serve at: 59-61°F (15-16°C)
- Cellaring: 5 to 10+ years
