    Blanc de Tronquoy – Bordeaux – White – 2017:

    Château Tronquoy: The Saint-Estèphe Star

Château Tronquoy-Lalande, recently rebranded as Château Tronquoy, stands as a powerhouse Cru Bourgeois estate in the northern Médoc. Owned by the Bouygues brothers, who also own the famed Château Montrose, this property has seen massive investment and modernization. Its unique terroir-deep gravel over a subsoil of clay-allows for a higher proportion of Merlot to flourish, delivering a wine that balances the classic, age-worthy structure of Saint-Estèphe with an unexpected level of approachability and lush, creamy texture.

    Tasting Notes & Profile

    • Appearance: Deep, opaque garnet-purple color, hinting at significant concentration.
    • Nose: An attention-seeking bouquet packed with ripe dark fruits (blackberries, currants), interwoven with espresso, dark chocolate, smoke, and licorice.
    • Palate: Full-bodied, round, and plush, showcasing layers of rich, dark red fruit. The tannins are fine-grained and creamy, a hallmark of the estate’s modern refinement. Excellent purity of fruit is maintained by balanced acidity, culminating in a long, layered finish with hints of cocoa and mint.

    Pairing & Serving Suggestions

This is a wine built for rich, classic meat dishes. Serve at 60°F (15.5°C). We recommend decanting younger vintages for 1-2 hours to allow the perfume to fully open. It’s drinking beautifully now with air, but the best vintages promise to evolve gracefully for 15-20 years.
