Château Tronquoy – Saint-Estèphe – Red – 2014:
Château Tronquoy-Lalande: Saint-Estèphe’s Understated Star
Château Tronquoy-Lalande, a Cru Bourgeois of exceptional quality and a sister property to the famed Second Growth Château Montrose, offers a truly superb expression of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. With a distinctive clay-gravel terroir that favors Merlot, this wine delivers a unique balance of powerful structure and approachable elegance. Owned by the Bouygues family since 2006, the estate benefits from significant investment, ensuring a consistent commitment to quality and sustainable viticulture.
Tasting Notes
- Color: Deep, intense garnet-red with a youthful, dark core.
- Nose: An elegant and complex bouquet of ripe black fruits (cassis, black plum), intertwined with spicy notes, hints of vanilla, cedar, and an earthy, leathery undertone that speaks to its Saint-Estèphe origins.
- Palate: Full-bodied and dense, with a velvety texture. The tannins are firm yet polished, providing excellent grip and structure. Flavors of dark fruit, licorice, and black pepper lead to a long, lingering, and harmonious finish. This wine is built to age but is highly enjoyable in its youth with proper decanting.
Pairing & Serving
This is a serious, cellar-worthy Bordeaux. Ideal Serving Temperature: 61-64°F (16-18°C). We recommend decanting younger vintages for at least one hour to allow the structure to soften and the aromas to fully express themselves.
- Pairing: The perfect complement to rich, savory red meats and classic American steakhouse fare.
